Two recent events have deteriorated Guyana's geopolitical stability: 1) on 21 December 2018, a vote of no-confidence against President Granger (who, however, has questioned the legitimacy of this no-confidence vote) has triggered a stalemate in internal politics; and, 2) on 22 December 2018 (just a day after the fall President Granger’s government), the Venezuelan army intercepted two ships exploring for oil on behalf of ExxonMobil in Guyanese waters, re-opening a 19th Century territorial dispute between the two nations.
